New Wave of Flemish Comic Strip Exhibition at Belgian Comics Art Museum

Belgium boasts the highest number of comic strip artists per square kilometer globally, with more than 700 cartoonists. In Brussels, the Belgian Comics Art Museum has launched "The New Wave of Flemish Comic Strip," a collective exhibition curated by Mélanie Andrieu and Tine Anthoni. This showcase features works from 16 Flemish artists, including Pieter de Poortere, Judith Vanistendal, and Michaël Olbrechts, all created since 2000. The Comic Strip Art Commission, founded in 2002 under the Flemish Foundation for Literature, has played a significant role in supporting these creators through grants and promoting their work internationally. Flemish comics are known for their humor and family themes, with classics like Nero and Jommeke. The exhibit will be open until June 3, 2018.
