New test measures LLM developmental cognition via sentence completion

A new tool called the Developmental Sentence Completion Test (DSCT) has been unveiled by researchers. This 20-item assessment aims to evaluate the stage-like structure in responses generated by LLMs, based on Robert Kegan's constructive-developmental theory. Current techniques depend on expert interviews or exclusive sentence-completion tools, which lack scalability. The DSCT gathers developmental signals through self-administered text, yet the responses are labeled instead of being tied to validated developmental stages at the individual level. The research investigates the extent to which LLMs can retrieve this developmental signal.
