New-Territories Retrospective at Les Turbulences d'Orléans

Les Turbulences d'Orléans presents 'eILe Pr_FAIRE la FICTION', a retrospective of the architecture agency New-Territories, founded by Stéphanie Lavaux and François Roche. The exhibition, curated by new FRAC Centre director Abdelkader Damani, occupies multiple spaces including the entrance projection room, the main Turbulences gallery, and the Fours à Pain gallery. New-Territories, known for its polymorphic identity and name changes over decades (Roche, DSV & Sie from 1993-97; R, DSV & Sie. P in 1998; R & Sie. D/B: L from 1999-2001; R&Sie(n) from 2001-2011; M4=MindMachineMakingMyths from 2011-2015; and now New-Territories represented by avatar S/he or eILe), blends architecture with fiction, robotics, and cinema. The show features an accusatory hybrid figure in a translucent cube at the entrance, a white cube housing 'Altered State' (2012) which diffuses smoke to alter visitor states, and 'Shadow Room [The Virgin Case]' (2016) where a 7-axis robot knits and unknits a black substance with human hair. Projects like 'I've heard about' (2006-09) use open-source algorithms. The agency explores post-digital, post-human, queer, and schizoid territories, questioning the relationship between humans and machines. François Roche, described as polemical and reminiscent of Le Corbusier or Frank Lloyd Wright, serves as the avatar's secretary. The exhibition runs at Les Turbulences d'Orléans.
