New terrace at Palazzo Poli offers unprecedented view of Trevi Fountain

cultural-heritage · 2026-04-27

A new museum path at Palazzo Poli in Rome will open a terrace offering a direct view of the Trevi Fountain from above. The project, conceived by Maria Cristina Misiti, director of the Istituto Nazionale per la Grafica, aims to transform the historic building into a museum. Visitors will ascend through the noble floor, a series of rooms on the third floor, and a spiral staircase to reach the terrace overlooking the fountain and the city. The initiative is in the feasibility study phase, focusing on safety interventions and visitor management. Palazzo Poli, originally built in the 16th century, was expanded in 1678 when Lucrezia Colonna acquired it. The Trevi Fountain, designed by Nicola Salvi in 1732 and completed by Giuseppe Pannini in 1762, was built against the palace's facade, making the terrace view unique. The project will also recount the palace's long history in the heart of Rome.
