New Rome Gallery LETTERA_E Opens with Tribute to Vincenzo Mazzarella

On March 4, 2021, a new art gallery called LETTERA_E opened on Via Muzio Attendolo in a peripheral area of Rome, near the Prenestina artery and a park known as 'la ex snia'. The inaugural exhibition, 'In ricordo di Vincenzo Mazzarella', features works by eighteen artists who gathered to celebrate the birthday of their late friend, supporter, colleague, and intellectual Vincenzo Mazzarella (Deliceto, 1957 – Rome, 2018). Mazzarella was a key figure in Rome's cultural scene, having run two spaces—Galleria dei Serpenti and later Galleria Monserrato—where many established and emerging artists intersected. The show includes paintings, drawings, a ceramic sculpture, and a vintage black-and-white photograph of a young man walking along the Tiber with a suitcase, identified as Enzo. A previously unpublished text by Mazzarella was printed as a booklet for the occasion. The gallery owner noted that the space was originally scheduled to open a year earlier but was delayed due to the pandemic; now, he said, 'we can't wait any longer, we must return to living.' The opening drew dozens of visitors, a surprising turnout in pandemic times, and was described by the author as comforting and moving—a celebration of art and friendship that offered a glimpse of spring during a difficult winter.
