New Reggia di Caserta logo sparks ridicule and parody online

The Reggia di Caserta, the 18th-century royal palace in Caserta, Italy, unveiled a new visual identity and logo on April 2020, designed by the communication agency Sigla Comunicazione of Curtatone, Mantua. The logo, featuring the initials "RG" in a typeface described as "faithful to Vanvitellian stylistic canons," was intended to represent the museum as a brand, blending history and contemporaneity. Director Tiziana Maffei stated that the new identity is part of broader activities for the year, aiming to highlight the palace's history, art, and culture as a productive force aligned with the UN's 2030 Agenda for sustainable development. However, the logo was met with widespread mockery on the museum's Facebook page, with hundreds of negative comments comparing it to logos of a dairy, a four-star hotel, a wedding villa, or a residence. The cost of the project, €37,000, was also criticized, as it was awarded directly to the agency without a public competition. The Naples-based communication agency Dopolavoro.org created a series of parodies, reimagining the logo for a real estate agency, a dairy, a hotel, an insurance company, and even for footballer Cristiano Ronaldo and political figure Rocco Casalino.
