New Private Foundation 'La Fondazione' to Open in Rome Beneath Gagosian Gallery

A new private art foundation called 'La Fondazione' is set to open in Rome after the summer break, occupying a 1,000 sqm basement space in the same building that houses Gagosian Gallery's Rome outpost on Via Crispi. The space, designed by architect Carlo Berarducci, has been vacant for years and will now be dedicated to cultural activities. The initiative is led by Nino Bevilacqua, a Palermo-born entrepreneur, manager, collector, university professor, and wine producer on Mount Etna. Bevilacqua previously founded GOCA in Palermo in 2008, which launched with a Vanessa Beecroft exhibition. 'La Fondazione' will debut with a solo show by Piero Golia, curated by Pier Paolo Pancotto (who declined to comment), featuring a new work created specifically for the space. The foundation adds to Rome's growing network of private art spaces, including Palazzo Merulana, Rhinoceros (Fondazione Alda Fendi), and Musja, amid perceived inaction by the city's municipal administration.
