exhibition · 2026-04-23

From April 8 to July 5, 2009, the New Museum in New York unveiled its inaugural triennial, titled 'The Generational: Younger than Jesus.' Curated by Lauren Cornell, Massimiliano Gioni, and Laura Hoptman, the exhibition showcased the work of 50 artists under the age of 33, hailing from 25 different countries, including French artists Loris Gréaud and Cyprien Gaillard. The entire museum, which reopened in 2007, was utilized for this event. Advisors for the triennial included Marc-Olivier Wahler and Nicolas Bourriaud. The focus leaned towards Western and Middle Eastern artists, with limited representation from Africa, China, and Japan. Notable features included Ryan Trecartin's 'not yet titled' (2007) and Liz Glynn's performance 'Building Rome in a Day' (2009).
