New Museum Triennial 'Surround Audience' Curated by Lauren Cornell and Ryan Trecartin Explores Digital Identity

The New Museum's third Triennial, titled 'Surround Audience,' is set to take place from February 25 to May 24, 2015. Curated by Lauren Cornell and Ryan Trecartin, with Sara O'Keeffe as the assistant curator, the exhibition showcases 51 artists from more than 25 nations, emphasizing empowerment through visibility and technology. Notably, half of the works are either newly created or commissioned in response to significant global events from the summer of 2014, including the Ferguson protests and the Ebola crisis. Artists delve into concepts of visibility, safety, and agency, featuring pieces like Nadim Abbas's sealed chambers and niv Acosta's 'DISCOTROPIC.' K-Hole also contributed an advertising campaign named 'Extended Release.' This Triennial highlights emerging talent and incorporates technologies such as Oculus Rift and 3D printing, following the previous exhibitions 'The Generational' (2009) and 'The Ungovernables' (2012).
