New Museum Triennial 'Soft Water Hard Stone' Announces 2021 Artist Roster

The New Museum in New York will present its fifth Triennial exhibition from October 27, 2021, to January 23, 2022. Titled 'Soft Water Hard Stone,' the show explores themes of resilience and resistance through a Brazilian proverb. Co-curated by Margot Norton and Jamillah James, the exhibition features 41 artists including Haig Aivazian, Evgeny Antufiev, Alex Ayed, Nadia Belerique, Hera Büyüktaşcıyan, Tomás Díaz Cedeño, Gabriel Chaile, Gaëlle Choisne, Krista Clark, Kate Cooper, Cynthia Daignault, Jes Fan, Goutam Ghosh, Harry Gould Harvey IV, Clara Ianni, Kahlil Robert Irving, Arturo Kameya, Laurie Kang, Bronwyn Katz, Ann Greene Kelly, Kang Seung Lee, Amy Lien and Enzo Camacho, Tanya Lukin Linklater, Angelika Loderer, Sandra Mujinga, Gabriela Mureb, Brandon Ndife, Erin Jane Nelson, Jeneen Frei Njootli, Ima-Abasi Okon, Christina Pataialii, Thao Nguyen Phan, Nickola Pottinger, Rose Salane, Blair Saxon-Hill, Samara Scott, Amalie Smith, Iris Touliatou, Ambera Wellmann, and Yu Ji. The title references water's ability to gradually erode stone, symbolizing persistent effort overcoming rigid structures. This edition marks the continuation of the museum's signature survey of emerging global talent.
