New Museum to Open Restaurant Designed by OMA in Fall 2025

architecture-design · 2026-04-26

The New Museum in New York will open a restaurant designed by OMA / Shohei Shigematsu in autumn 2025, as part of its expansion. The restaurant, the first OMA-designed restaurant in the US, will be operated in partnership with Oberon Group and led by chef and food writer Julia Sherman. It will seat 100 and have an independent entrance from Freeman Alley, operating even when the museum is closed. The space will feature sustainable materials like cork, plants, an installation by Ian Cheng, and furniture by Minjae Kim. The expansion, announced in 2017, will double the museum's exhibition space and is OMA's first public building in New York. The museum originally opened in 1977 in a single room on Hudson Street and moved to its current SANAA-designed building at Bowery and Prince Street in 2007.
