New Museum Brings 'Strange Days' Video Art Show to London

exhibition · 2026-05-04

The New Museum of New York is expanding to London with the exhibition 'Strange Days: Memories of the Future,' curated by artistic director Massimiliano Gioni. The show will open on October 2, 2018, during Frieze Art Fair, at The Store X, a space on the Thames that previously hosted exhibitions with the Hayward Gallery and Lisson Gallery. It features video artists and filmmakers who have shown at the New Museum since its founding a decade ago, many of whose works have never been exhibited in Europe. The exhibition is organized in collaboration with the Vinyl Factory, a British independent label that promotes art and music projects. Gioni stated that the show will bring together some of the most interesting video artists and filmmakers who have presented work at the New Museum over the past ten years. Separately, the Smithsonian Institution has formalized a partnership with the Victoria and Albert Museum in London to establish a presence in the UK, including a permanent exhibition and periodic shows at the V&A East, though details remain undisclosed.
