New Museum and Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo forge partnership
The New Museum in New York, set to reopen in fall 2025 with a doubled exhibition space designed by OMA/Shohei Shigematsu with Rem Koolhaas, has announced a new collaboration with the Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo of Turin. The partnership, revealed by The Art Newspaper, focuses on producing and exhibiting new works by international artists. It coincides with the foundation's 30th anniversary and aligns with Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo's philanthropic vision. The initiative, named New Futures, will launch with Lombard artist and videomaker Diego Marcon, who will present a new film featuring the Orchestra dell'Opera di Torino in a solo show at the New Museum in 2026, later to be exhibited in Turin. The reopening exhibition, "New Humans: Memories of the Future," will feature new works by Meriem Bennani, Pierre Huyghe, Precious Okoyomon, Berenice Olmedo, Philippe Parreno, and Hito Steyerl alongside 20th-century masters like Bacon, Dalì, and Rambaldi, exploring humanity in the face of technological progress. The museum, founded in 1977 in the Lower East Side, does not collect works by statute, so the collaboration supports artists directly, including through a residency program in the new wing. New Museum artistic director Massimiliano Gioni hopes the alliance will be recurring and multi-year, open to commissions of any medium or scale.
