New installation for Galleria Sabauda at Musei Reali di Torino

exhibition · 2026-04-27

The Musei Reali di Torino have unveiled a new installation of the Gualino Collection, one of Italy's most significant private collections, now relocated from the third to the second floor of the Galleria Sabauda. Seven new rooms have been created in the south wing of the 19th-century building, rationalizing spaces and incorporating corridors, while also refreshing the 18th-century collections with works from storage. The rehang aims to highlight the collecting taste of Riccardo Gualino (Biella 1879 – Florence 1964), an entrepreneur, collector, and patron whose collection spans from ancient Egypt to the 19th century, encompassing painting, sculpture, and decorative arts, donated to the state in 1930. Director Enrica Pagella stated the rehang prioritizes accessibility and storytelling. Highlights include a Madonna and Child by Duccio di Buoninsegna and the so-called Venus of Turin, one of three works attributed to Botticelli and his workshop, previously exhibited at the Galleria Sabauda.
