New inclusive app guides visitors through Dante's Florence
Florence has launched 'Occhio della città intelligente', a free app designed to guide users through Dante Alighieri-related sites for the 700th anniversary of his death. The app is accessible to visually impaired people via voice commands and integrates with smartphone navigators. It includes points of interest like pharmacies, bus stops, and monuments. Three Dante-themed itineraries were added by Soroptimist International Club Firenze Due: two one-hour routes and one half-hour route, starting from the Baptistery, the Dante district, and Via del Corso. The app also features a similar route in Ravenna. The project was supported by Lions and Leo Districts of Tuscany and the University of Florence's Disability Center. Culture Councillor Tommaso Sacchi emphasized inclusivity, and Soroptimist President Gloria Giudizi highlighted the right to culture for those with visual impairments.
