New Graphic Novel Explores Franz Kafka's Tormented Life

Mauro Falchetti and Luca Albanese have released a graphic novel titled "Kafka. Diario di un disperso" (BeccoGiallo Editore, Padua, 2022), which delves into the last twenty years of Franz Kafka's life, starting from the period before his masterpiece "The Metamorphosis." The book emphasizes Kafka's troubled relationship with his father, existential anxieties, and sense of powerlessness, depicted through dynamic and vibrant illustrations that contrast with the author's dark inner world. Falchetti, who wrote the screenplay, described the work as a "psychological biography" aiming to reconstruct Kafka's daily life, relationships, and approach to writing. Albanese noted the challenge of capturing Kafka's multifaceted personality, having been inspired by previous comic masters. The 152-page volume is priced at €18 (ISBN 9788833142050).
