New Foundation for Textile Art Launches in Como
On January 26, 2018, a new foundation focused on industrial textile and fiber art was launched in Como by Nazzarena Bortolaso, artist-designer Mimmo Totaro, and Giancarlo Sponga, the spouse of the late fiber artist Marialuisa Sponga. Paola Re serves as the president, with Chiara Anzani as vice president. The foundation was unveiled on June 7 at Palazzo Mocenigo in Venice, where the Museo del Tessuto e del Costume is located, under the direction of Chiara Squarcina, who advocates for contemporary textile art. It aims to document and preserve three decades of fiber art research, including pieces from the Miniartextil exhibition featuring artists like Magdalena Abakanowicz and William Kentridge. The foundation's inaugural event is set for September 7, 2018, in Como, showcasing works by Marialuisa Sponga and Mimmo Totaro.
