New Etruscan Museum to Open in Milan by End of 2025
A new Etruscan museum is taking shape in Palazzo Bocconi-Rizzoli-Carraro on central Corso Venezia in Milan, set to open by the end of 2025. The project is led by the Fondazione Luigi Rovati, with Giovanna Forlanelli Rovati, vice president of the foundation and director of Rottapharm Biotech, at the helm. The museum's core collection consists of 700 artifacts acquired from the Cottier Angeli collection in Switzerland. Architect Mario Cucinella is designing the space, which will include a hypogeum floor dedicated to Etruscan art, a ground floor for services, and a first floor preserving the 1960s interiors by Filippo Perego. The museum aims to be a hub for Etruscan studies, offering research grants, publications, and collaborations with universities. It will operate under a convention with the Municipality of Milan, becoming part of the city's civic museum circuit. The Etruscan collection will be curated by Giulio Paolucci, director of the Museo etrusco di Chianciano, with an advisory board including Salvatore Settis, Annalisa Zanni, and Philip Rylands.
