New Edition of Hemingway's 'Paris est une fête' Restores Original Manuscript
A new edition of Ernest Hemingway's 'Paris est une fête' (A Moveable Feast) has been published by Éditions Gallimard, restoring the original manuscript as found after the writer's suicide in 1961. The book, first published posthumously in 1964, now includes texts previously omitted or amended by editors. Sean Hemingway, the author's grandson, provides an introduction. The memoir recounts Hemingway's years as a young journalist and aspiring novelist in 1920s Paris, featuring portraits of Gertrude Stein, Ezra Pound, F. Scott Fitzgerald, James Joyce, and others. Hemingway's style, influenced by painters Cézanne and Manet, aims for 'true' sentences. The new edition offers readers the unexpurgated text, preserving the author's original voice.
