New Ebola outbreak in Congo's Ituri province confirmed by Africa CDC
On Friday, the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced a new Ebola outbreak in the isolated Ituri province of Congo. So far, there have been 246 suspected cases and 65 fatalities, primarily in the health zones of Mongwalu and Rwampara. Among confirmed cases, four deaths have been documented. Additionally, suspected cases are emerging in Bunia, the capital of Ituri province, which is close to the Uganda border, awaiting verification. Preliminary lab tests have identified the Ebola virus in 13 out of 20 samples analyzed. This outbreak follows approximately five months after the previous outbreak was declared contained. The Ebola virus spreads easily through bodily fluids, including vomit, blood, or semen, and the disease it causes is rare but often deadly.
