publication · 2026-04-27

A new documentary titled 'Frida Kahlo' aims to strip away the commodified image of the Mexican painter and reveal the woman behind the global icon. Directed by Ali Ray, the film is shot primarily at the Casa Azul (Blue House) in Mexico City, Kahlo's lifelong home. Ray states that studying Kahlo's works closely and accessing her personal letters transformed her understanding of the artist, showing how fragility and insecurities were processed through painting. Producer Phil Grabsky notes that while Kahlo is widely known, few truly understand her art or biography. The film features insights from world-renowned experts. 'Frida Kahlo' will be screened in Italian cinemas exclusively on November 22, 23, and 24, 2021, distributed by Adler Entertainment.
