New docufilm traces Dante's exile through anecdotes and legends

A new docufilm titled 'Dante, l'esilio di un poeta' (Dante, the Exile of a Poet) has been released as a teaser on the Dante Global platform, marking the 700th anniversary of the poet's death. Directed by Fabrizio Bancale and produced by the Società Dante Alighieri, the approximately 70-minute documentary explores the last years of Dante Alighieri's life, focusing on his exile from Florence in 1302. Forced to flee his hometown, Dante wandered as a fugitive for about 19 years, never returning. Filmed over 21 days across Tuscany, Romagna, and Liguria, the documentary weaves together anecdotes and legends from his dramatic exile. The narrative unfolds through medieval villages, castles, and Italian towns, featuring characters such as a bizarre traveler, an elderly homeless man, and a pair of street artists, played by Paola Tortora, Gigi Savoia, Canio Loguercio, and Giovanna Famulari.
