New Dictionary of Performance Art by Taroni-Cividin Published in Italy
A new dictionary of performance art, 'Dizionario Taroni-Cividin – Concetti e pratiche performative' (Bulzoni editore, Rome 2024), has been released. The volume combines a personal lexicon of the duo Taroni-Cividin, active between 1976 and 1984, with universal entries ranging from Memory to Revelation, Event to Alienation, Sublime, Fire, Gesture, and Zero. In an interview, Roberto Lucca Taroni recounts meeting Luisa Cividin in 1976 in Milan, where they founded the no-profit space Sixto Notes (originally Centro di Via San Sisto 6) in a squatted house at via San Sisto 6. Sixto Notes became the second no-profit space in Italy after Zona in Florence, later joined by artists Ferruccio Ascari, Daniela Cristadoro, and Franco Taroni. The space focused on sound, performance, and video works by international artists, hosting the Audioworks series and contributing to the landmark exhibition 'Sonorità Prospettiche' in sound art. Taroni emphasizes that their performances were unique, unrepeatable events based on presentation rather than representation, rejecting reenactment. The dictionary, created with Daniele Vergni, is intended as a conceptual warehouse for ideas relevant today, opposing reductionism and critical distance abandonment.
