New Diana Gallery Opens in Milan with Sophie Jung Inaugural Show

Milan continues to solidify its status as a dynamic hub for contemporary art with the opening of several new galleries in late 2023, including LOFT by Galleria Fumagalli in Porta Nuova, a new venue for Clima Gallery in Porta Venezia, and the first international outpost of Lisbon's Bessa Pereira. Joining this wave is Diana Gallery, founded by Stefania Rosi in Porta Genova, dedicated to supporting young artists through a diverse exhibition program. The space emphasizes experimentation, inviting artists to create site-specific projects. Its inaugural exhibition, Reifiction, features Swiss artist Sophie Jung (born 1982 in Basel) and runs from December 1, 2023, to February 3, 2024. The show's title blends 'reification' and 'fiction,' exploring the relationship between idea and matter, with Jung's practice evoking Arte Povera and Surrealist experiments. She prioritizes matter over idea, using found objects, waste, and remnants from warehouses, construction sites, and markets to create sculptures that form a 'material solidarity' through diversity. The works generate new narratives centered on the goddess Diana, paying homage to the gallery. The exhibition includes a critical text by Paul Clinton and Cédric Fauq.
