New Coconino Press book collects Andrea Pazienza's final works (1986-1988)

publication · 2026-04-27

Coconino Press has released 'Storie 1986-1988', a collection of Andrea Pazienza's last three years of comics, compiled in a nearly 200-page color volume with a preface by David Riondino. The book, the tenth in the publisher's Pazienza series, gathers short stories previously published only in fragments across satirical magazines like Tango and Zut, including the tender childhood memories of 'Una estate', the furious death struggle of 'Campofame' (adapting a poem by Robinson Jeffers), and the unfinished 'Storia di Astarte' about Hannibal's war dog. Pazienza, born in San Benedetto del Tronto on May 23, 1956, would have turned 66 in 2022. A key figure in Italian comics, he co-founded the Primo Carnera Editore and the magazine Cannibale in 1977 with Filippo Scòzzari, Stefano Tamburini, Massimo Mattioli, and Tanino Liberatore, later contributing to Il Male and co-founding Frigidaire in 1980. He died of a heroin overdose on June 16, 1988, in Montepulciano. His works have been published by numerous Italian houses including Rizzoli, Einaudi, Panini, and Coconino Press.
