publication · 2026-04-27

A new activity book titled 'I mostri di Dante' (The Monsters of Dante) published by Salani Editore in 2021 aims to introduce children to the creatures of Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy. The book features seventeen infernal monsters, presented through comics, games, quizzes, cut-out pages, and coloring activities. The project was conceived by Mariagrazia Mazzitelli and created by Laura Vaioli, Mirko Volpi, and Giacomo Guccinelli. Vaioli and Guccinelli direct the TheSIGN Academy in Florence. The book offers a pop-culture reinterpretation of Dante's monsters, drawing inspiration from Gustave Doré, Cartoon Network, Disney, Nickelodeon, Bosch, Go Nagai, and William Blake. Each monster is given a character card with abilities and scores, reminiscent of fantasy role-playing games. The authors tested the book on children during development. The volume costs €14.90 and runs 128 pages.
