New book explores past, present, and future of Rome's Foro Italico

A new volume published by LetteraVentidue examines the history, current state, and future prospects of the Foro Italico in Rome. Edited by Luca Zevi, the book features photographs by Paolo Rosselli and artworks by Titina Maselli. Essays by Massimo Locci, Livio Sacchi, Claudio Strinati, Lucia De Vincenti, Annalisa Metta, Luigi Prestinenza Puglisi, Piero Ostilio Rossi, and Emma Tagliacollo cover the complex's architecture, its relationship with the Tiber, and its representation in literature and cinema. The Foro Italico is one of the most significant architectural ensembles of the Fascist regime in Rome, alongside Città Universitaria, EUR, and Cinecittà. The book also discusses the role of sport under Fascism and Nazism, comparing the Foro Italico to the Olympia Stadion and indoor pool by Werner March and Carlo Jelkmann in Berlin. It highlights architects Enrico Del Debbio, Luigi Moretti, and Costantino Costantini, and notes the regime's megalomaniacal project for a colossal statue, of which only a head and foot remain. The volume was commissioned by Sport e salute S.p.A., the public company for sports development.
