New artist-run space Biancofiore opens at CityLab 971 in Rome

exhibition · 2026-04-26

In Rome, the CityLab 971 complex on Via Salaria—a former paper mill undergoing urban regeneration—has seen the emergence of new cultural spaces since 2020. Among them is Biancofiore, an artist-run space founded by artists Victor Albano and Irene De Sanctis, joined by Daniele Culicelli, Sergio Saija, and Valerio Volpato. The space opened in May 2024 with Volpato's solo exhibition "Strato Limite – Deframmentazione della paura e del suo ricordo" (May 23–June 13), featuring paintings, sculptural installations, and sound works exploring anxiety through perceptual variables altered by pharmacology, distorted sounds, and classical music, jazzcore, and experimental music, as described by critic Teresa Di Gregorio. Additionally, the new Project Room Biancofiore, an exhibition space produced by CityLab 971 and run by the collective, opens June 7 with "Si è seduto il vento," a solo show by painter Francesca Romana Cicia (b. 1994, Rome), curated by Gemma Gulisano. Cicia, a founding member of the artist-run space Condotto48 in Torre Angela, presents new paintings exploring episodic memory and recollection. The collective plans to promote events involving artists of diverse backgrounds, collaborate with other independent and artist-run spaces nationally and internationally, organize residencies, and work with institutions to develop community-enriching projects.
