New Artist Residency Launches in Calabrian Countryside

A new artist residency has been established at La Pizzuta del Principe, an ancient estate surrounded by olive groves and vineyards in Strongoli, Calabria. The project is curated by art critic Alberto Dambruoso, former curator of BoCS Art in Cosenza, and promoted by cultural associations I Martedì Critici and Le Nove Muse. It was initiated by former Undersecretary of Cultural Heritage Dorina Bianchi, who contacted Dambruoso months ago to propose a residency at her family estate. The residency aims to foster dialogue between the agricultural and productive world and contemporary art through mutual contamination. Four artists will participate between late July and the first week of September: street artist Gio Pistone and painter Matteo Capobianco are in residence until August 8, while sculptor Antonio Tropiano and painter Roberto Giglio arrive in early September. The program includes public events during and after the residencies, where artists will discuss their work in progress with the curator and engage with local residents. Other Calabrian residency curators will also be invited. The estate features a 2021 installation by Alberto Timossi in the cellar.
