New art education initiatives across Italy: galleries, web series, and biennials
Several new art education initiatives are launching in Italy in December 2016 and early 2017. In Verona, the gallery Volto d’Arte, dedicated to young artists, opens on December 17, named after the late teacher Marita Galazzini. Its inaugural exhibition, "Tra e per i sogni di Marita," features Galazzini's works, including the "Tappeti volanti" (2010–2013) and "Nature" (2013–2015). The gallery aims to provide exhibition opportunities for students, especially those from the Liceo Artistico in Verona. In Foggia, the Accademia di Belle Arti presents the web series "Da da Dreams – vietato svegliarsi" on December 14, produced by students under Mariagrazia Pontorno. The four 4-minute episodes blend genres from sci-fi to noir, referencing "Twin Peaks," and involve students, faculty, and staff. The series is also on display at Fondazione Noesi Studio Carrieri in Martina Franca until January 15. The first edition of the Biennale dei Licei artistici italiani, on the theme of play, opens December 15 at Museo di Palazzo Venezia in Rome, running until January 15, 2017. Organized by MIUR and ReNaLiArt, it features students from Italian and international art schools. Additionally, the project "Dando la parola" by MIUR and ReNaLiArt will hold meetings throughout 2017 to update curricula, starting in March with around 200 teachers discussing six artistic disciplines, culminating in a November conference in Rome.
