cultural-heritage · 2026-04-27

A new archaeological museum focused on ancient Sparta is set to rise at the site of the old Hymofix factory, with a design by Panagiotis Zeneto and an anticipated completion in three years. The initiative, led by architects Spyros Moutrichas and Taulant Tozaj, involves refurbishing the factory and adding a contemporary wing for €2,750,000. This museum will link to the archaeological park, enriching Sparta's cultural legacy. According to Greek Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni, it aims to elevate Sparta's presence in the global cultural arena. The factory will showcase the permanent collection, while the new two-story section will feature exhibition areas, a café, and workshops, with the underground level dedicated to ceramics, mosaics, and sculptures for ongoing research and temporary displays.
