New 400-Meter Gate Unveiled at Turin's Botanical Garden
A new green gate, measuring 400 meters in length, was officially opened at the Botanical Garden of Turin on September 29, 2025. This installation replaces temporary barriers that had concealed the 19th-century Boschetto along the Po River for two decades. With a budget of approximately 900,000 euros and a construction period of seven months, the gate also includes lighting for its internal pathways. Director Consolata Siniscalco emphasized its purpose of encouraging public exploration of the garden. The original gate was dismantled in the 1930s, leading to various substitutes. This new structure is part of a larger redevelopment initiative for Parco del Valentino, which encompasses the Central Civic Library, Teatro Nuovo, and the restoration of the medieval Borgo. Established in 1729, the garden features remarkable trees and plants, although some greenhouses are currently closed due to hail damage.
