Neurodivergent artist Katherine Duclos creates Lego works for Miami Art Basel

artist · 2026-04-26

Katherine Duclos, a neurodivergent artist born in 1980, discovered her condition after becoming a mother of two. Her mind requires the rearrangement of colors and objects, leading her to use Lego bricks as a creative medium. The documentary "Small Tiny Starts" explores the genesis of her works. Duclos creates tactile, interactive art, and her rare talent for cataloging shapes, colors, and geometries allows her to produce almost material Lego panels inspired by nature. In 2023, The Lego Group commissioned Duclos to create artworks for their pop-up at Miami Art Basel, called Center for Creative Flow. In six weeks, she produced over 13 square meters of abstract, colorful constructions mounted on wooden panels. The works were later transferred to Lego's headquarters in Massachusetts, highlighting the potential of neurodivergent individuals when given the right tools.
