Netflix's Tomb Raider animated series gets October 2024 release date

Netflix has released a trailer and announced an October 10, 2024 release date for "Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft," an animated series produced by Powerhouse Animation Studios for Legendary Television and DJ2 Entertainment. The series continues the narrative from the 2013 video game reboot by Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix, followed by Rise of the Tomb Raider (2015) and Shadow of the Tomb Raider (2018), focusing on Lara Croft's maturation and her relationship with the worlds she explores. Hayley Atwell voices the protagonist. The series was first announced in 2021 and previewed in late 2023 during Netflix's Drop 01 animation showcase. Meanwhile, Amazon is developing a live-action Tomb Raider series for Prime Video, written by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and will also publish the next Tomb Raider video game, currently in development at Crystal Dynamics, now part of Embracer Group. Embracer Group has faced significant financial difficulties, including layoffs of over 4,500 employees, closure of 44 studios, and cancellation of 80 projects between June 2023 and May 2024, with a remaining debt of $1.5 billion.
