Netflix's 'Little House on the Prairie' Adaptation Lacks Cozy Charm

Netflix's fresh take on Laura Ingalls Wilder's 'Little House on the Prairie,' helmed by Rebecca Sonnenshine, has secured a second season. In contrast to the 1974 series featuring Michael Landon and Melissa Gilbert, which provided a cozy retreat, Sonnenshine's adaptation seeks a more authentic and somber tone. The showrunner, recognized for her unsettling projects like 'The Housemaid' and 'The Vampire Diaries,' attributes her writing inspiration to Wilder's works from her childhood on a farm. While the series boasts stunning visuals with vibrant colors, its atmosphere is bleak, reminiscent of 'Midsommar.' Characters such as Pa Ingalls (Luke Bracey) are depicted in a less competent light.
