Netflix's 'Hollywood' Reimagines Tinseltown's Golden Age

Netflix released the miniseries 'Hollywood' on May 1, 2020, created by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan. Set in Los Angeles between 1946 and 1948, the dramedy follows a group of aspiring actors, directors, and writers—including a Black gay screenwriter, a war veteran actor, and a Black actress—as they navigate prejudice and corruption to achieve success during Hollywood's Golden Age. The series explores themes of identity, morality, and the struggle for representation, imagining a more inclusive history. Cast members include Darren Criss, David Corenswet, Jeremy Pope, Patti LuPone, Dylan McDermott, Samara Weaving, Jim Parsons, Maude Apatow, Joe Mantello, Laura Harrier, Holland Taylor, Jake Picking, Mira Sorvino, and Rob Reiner. Actress Laura Harrier told Variety she loves imagining how different the world would be if marginalized groups had been represented from the start.
