Netflix's 'Halston' Series Explores the Designer's Rise and Fall

Netflix has released a miniseries titled 'Halston,' starring Ewan McGregor as the iconic American fashion designer Roy Halston Frowick. The series delves into Halston's glamorous yet turbulent life, from his early days as a milliner crafting Jacqueline Kennedy's inaugural hat to becoming America's most famous couturier. It portrays his hedonistic lifestyle in 1970s New York, including his association with Studio 54, his muses like Elsa Peretti, and his eventual downfall. The narrative focuses on the conflict between creative vision and commercial interests, highlighting how Halston sold his name to investors, leading to mass-market collaborations with J.C. Penney that diluted his brand. The series is directed by Ryan Murphy and is based on Steven Gaines' biography 'Simply Halston.' It coincides with the upcoming Metropolitan Museum of Art's costume exhibition on American designers, where Halston's garments will be featured.
