Netflix has released the trailer for 'Shirley: in corsa per la Casa Bianca', a biographical drama about Shirley Anita St. Hill Chisholm, the first Black woman elected to the U.S. Congress. The film premieres on March 22. Chisholm, a former kindergarten teacher, earned a master's degree in early childhood education from Columbia University. She entered politics in 1964 as the second African American in the New York State Legislature, and in 1968 won a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. In 1972, she ran for President, losing the Democratic primary but surviving three assassination attempts. After retiring from Congress in 1983, she taught at Mount Holyoke College and co-founded the National Political Congress of Black Women. She died in 2005. The film stars Oscar winner Regina King as Chisholm, with Lance Reddick in one of his final roles. John Ridley, who won an Oscar for '12 Years a Slave', directs.
