Netflix film 'Sei nell’anima' chronicles Gianna Nannini's early life and career

The biographical film 'Sei nell’anima,' directed by Cinzia TH Torrini, will premiere on Netflix on May 2. It covers the first 30 years of Italian rock icon Gianna Nannini, drawing from her 2016 autobiography 'Cazzi miei.' The screenplay, co-written by Donatella Diamanti and Cosimo Calamini, was developed through conversations during the COVID-19 lockdown. Tuscany-born actress Letizia Toni portrays the young Nannini, capturing her voice and mannerisms. The film explores Nannini's provincial upbringing, parental conflicts, and her pursuit of artistic freedom. A pivotal moment occurs in 1983 when Nannini experienced a psychological crisis in Germany while working on a new album, triggered by industry pressure to produce a hit after 'America.' This blackout period, coinciding with 'Fotoromanza,' led to a rebirth and subsequent string of successes. Nannini's fear of madness, rooted in a university psychiatry course and influenced by the Basaglia law and anti-psychiatry movement, is a central theme.
