Netflix cofounder Reed Hastings plans 'skiable museum' at Utah ski resort

architecture-design · 2026-04-24

Reed Hastings, the cofounder of Netflix, has acquired the Powder Mountain ski resort in Eden, Utah, spanning 3,433 hectares. His vision includes transforming it into a 'skiable outdoor art museum' showcasing pieces by renowned artists such as James Turrell, Nancy Holt, Jenny Holzer, and local talent Paul McCarthy. Holzer plans to create rock engravings, while Turrell will place his 2011 immersive light installation, Ganzfeld Apani, in a secluded alpine hut. Hastings, whose net worth is approximately $4.7 billion, has also commissioned works from Arthur Jafa, Nikita Gale, Gala Porras-Kim, Davina Semo, and Raven Halfmoon. Access for hikers will be complimentary during the summer and autumn months. Matthew Thompson and Alex Zhang will manage the arts program, collaborating initially with Diana Nawi, the contemporary art curator at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
