Nervesa Gallery Opens in Milan as Independent Art Hub Founded by Livia Spinolo and Ilaria Centola
Nervesa Gallery has launched in Milan as a new independent contemporary art space, founded through the collaboration of artist Livia Spinolo and curator Ilaria Centola. The gallery opened in March 2026, occupying 40 square meters within a converted former industrial building at Via Nervesa 12, near Fondazione Prada and the Brenta metro station. Spinolo, a Milanese sculptor who spent 25 years abroad including 14 in London, returned to Italy nearly two years ago with the idea of creating more than a commercial gallery. Centola, founder of the curatorial platform UNCODE Art and creator of Milano Scultura in 2015 and Step Art Fair in 2009, became her partner. Their shared vision produced a flexible, white-cube style exhibition and research hub designed to support experimentation, with professional lighting and the adjacent studio available for site-specific work. The gallery's inaugural 2026 program is the exhibition series "Imagine," curated by Centola, focusing on imagination and featuring rotating Italian artists across photography, sculpture, and painting. The series opened with Igor Grigoletti, followed by Tina Cosmai's "Crossing Time" through April 19, with the next artist presentation scheduled for May 6. Exhibitions run for 11-day rotations. Future plans for 2027 include developing an emerging artist prize targeting fine arts academy graduates. Initial openings have reportedly been well-received.
