Nero/Alessandro Neretti's Site-Specific Installation at MART Rovereto

exhibition · 2026-04-27

At the MART in Rovereto, Nero/Alessandro Neretti (Faenza, 1980) has created a multisensory installation titled "Golfo Mistico," referencing Richard Wagner's 19th-century theatrical innovation of the same name. The work transforms the museum's piazza into a disorienting seaport, negating architecture and turning it into a living body that interrogates memory and contemporary issues. Central to the installation is a shattered David of Donatello atop a precarious oil tanker, serving as the base for a perpetually moving light system. This techno-mystical creature guides the viewer through the artist's imagination, drawing from the Odyssey, the Bible, and the cine-pop echo of Ghostbusters (Ivan Reitman, 1984). The work incorporates waste materials, including ceramics, and reflects on environmental exploitation and humanity's relationship with nature. The installation engages with Mario Botta's architecture, aiming to revolutionize the essence of matter and contemporaneity. The piece is presented as a site-specific intervention that measures the artist's career backward to give it a turn, placing memory at the service of analyzing the present.
