Nero/Alessandro Neretti on Ceramics, Nomadism, and Winning Awards
Nero/Alessandro Neretti (Faenza, 1980) has worked with ceramics since a young age, alongside photography, assemblage, and video. His practice involves self-fiction and reworking contemporary symbols. He uses molds and copies to connect with the past and memory. For nearly twenty years he was nomadic, without a fixed studio, producing works in residency programs. He recently settled in Schio, Veneto, to protect his archive and show large installations, but insists his production remains fluid. In 2013 he won the Premio Faenza under 40 section with 'I nuovi apostoli ovvero paesaggi economico-strutturali', an installation that forced organizers to change the competition rules. In June 2019 he won the Premio di Grottaglie, curated by Lorenzo Madaro, with a video 'Mediterranean Meditation' made in Gozo, Malta. He has collaborated with industry partners like Florim for the Premio Faenza and Ceramica Vogue for a project in Biella. His recent exhibition 'Inner City/good life' at Palazzo la Marmora, part of the Città di Terre festival, runs until October 13, 2019.
