Neri Marcorè mistakes Maxxi for a showroom in Art is Open video

digital · 2026-04-27

The second episode of Art is Open, a format by IGT aimed at making contemporary art accessible, features actor Neri Marcorè misunderstanding Patrick Tuttofuoco's installation 'On the corner where we stand' (2006) at the Maxxi Museum in Rome. Marcorè, speaking with a Tuscan accent, wanders around the artwork searching for his wife, believing he is in a furniture showroom. A museum guard, played by Marco Presta, tries to correct him. The installation consists of four four-meter-tall totems representing the megalopolises Delhi, Shanghai, Beijing, and Bombay, created after Tuttofuoco's three-month journey visiting eighteen megacities worldwide. The video humorously underscores that art can surprise.
