Neon Gallery's storied history celebrated in Modica exhibition
Gino Gianuizzi, the driving force behind Bologna's legendary non-profit space Neon, has announced the possibility of reopening the gallery. Neon was founded in 1981 in via Solferino by a group of friends and DAMS students, operating for 30 years across multiple locations before closing in 2011. The gallery was a crucible for emerging Italian artists, including Eva Marisaldi, Alessandro Pessoli, Maurizio Cattelan, and many others. Now, as part of the Proloco#2 project initiated by LaVeronica gallery in Modica, an exhibition titled "an archive in disorder" opens December 30, featuring selected works from Neon's storage along with documents, posters, and videos. Gianuizzi describes the show as a non-curated selection reflecting Neon's chaotic, rhizomatic approach. He also curates programming at a Munich gallery and teaches at the Academy of Fine Arts Bologna. The interview reveals Gianuizzi's desire to revive Neon, citing a persistent public demand for such a space.
