Neïl Beloufa's First Major Italian Solo Show at Pirelli HangarBicocca
Pirelli HangarBicocca in Milan presents 'Digital Mourning', the first major solo exhibition in Italy by Franco-Algerian artist Neïl Beloufa (born 1985, Paris). Curated by Roberta Tenconi, the show features immersive installations that reference video games, amusement parks, and anime, exploring how algorithms define contemporary life from food choices to human relationships. Beloufa's works, made from recycled materials, disorient viewers by representing the decentralized nature of the web, where hierarchies dissolve and everyone contributes to the network. Central to the exhibition are the 'hosts' (A, B, C), captivating figures in different colors with monitors displaying clips from Beloufa's filmography, giving the illusion of choice while actually controlling the viewer—mimicking algorithmic behavior. These deceptive sculptures are available as NFTs and tradable as cryptocurrency. Beloufa, also active in cinema, runs his studio as a creative hub where young artists share skills. The exhibition runs at Pirelli HangarBicocca, Milan, in 2021.
