Neïl Beloufa's 'Call and Response' at François Ghebaly examines digital disconnection

François Ghebaly gallery is hosting Neïl Beloufa's sixth solo exhibition, titled 'Call and Response'. The show investigates the persistent impact of repetitive media cycles that oscillate between violence and extreme personal focus. It also explores endlessly replicated situations found in conflict, artistic practice, and commercial messaging. Two neighboring installations structure the presentation. A new multimedia work sharing the exhibition's name occupies the primary space. This piece consists of six lightboxes constructed from pigmented resin, MDF, and LED components—materials reminiscent of those in personal electronics like phones and computers. Each lightbox displays intentionally generic or idyllic pictures, such as scenes labeled 'beach', 'flowers', or 'portrait'. Further applications of colored resin partially conceal these base images, distorting their clarity.
