Nei Albertí's 'Directed Tensions' Opens at Copernico Co-Working Space in Milan
During Milan Art Week, the co-working space Copernico Centrale Milano inaugurated 'Directed Tensions,' a solo exhibition by Catalan artist Nei Albertí (born 1975 in Sant Feliu de Guíxols). The show is presented by EFG Art, a London agency that produces and promotes emerging international artists. It is part of Art Journey, a project curated by Giorgia Sarti that brings contemporary art into Copernico's workspaces, aiming to merge art and business. Albertí's sculptures use simple materials like nylon and lycra to create lattice structures reminiscent of molecules or the universe. The works are displayed inside glass cubes, with colored light enhancing the intersecting threads. His practice revolves around tension and torsion of matter. The exhibition also features a site-specific installation with blue, green, and purple fabrics stretched between ceiling and floor, illuminated by Wood's light. Albertí emphasizes improvisation: the position of each element is decided during installation, making the process performative. He states, 'Direct chance, measured unconsciousness, surprise and intuition, immediacy with calm—these almost antagonistic concepts are the fundamental bases of my latest work.' His practice also includes large-format photographs documenting ephemeral site-specific works that are destroyed after being photographed or left in nature. The exhibition runs until November 20, 2020, at Copernico Centrale, Milan, by registration.
