other · 2026-04-27

Nedra Talley Ross, the last surviving member of the 1960s girl group the Ronettes, has died at age 80. The Ronettes formed in 1957 and included Ross and her cousins Ronnie Spector and Estelle Bennett. They were known for hits like "Be My Baby," "Baby I Love You," and "Walking in the Rain." In 1964 they released the album "Presenting the Fabulous Ronettes Featuring Veronica," which contains many of their most famous songs. The year before, they appeared on Phil Spector's classic Christmas album "A Christmas Gift for You from Phil Spector." Their music was featured in films such as "Dirty Dancing" and Martin Scorsese's "Mean Streets." The group disbanded in 1967, partly due to the abuse Ronnie Spector suffered from her husband Phil Spector. After the split, Talley Ross released a solo gospel album.
