Nebojša Despotović's 'Another Race of Vibrations' at CAR DRDE, Bologna
The CAR DRDE gallery in Bologna presents 'Another Race of Vibrations', a solo exhibition by Serbian-born artist Nebojša Despotović (Belgrade, 1982). The show features seven works from his 'Fioi' series, initiated in 2022 at the Laboratorio dell'Atelier F in Venice. Despotović, a former student of Carlo di Raco at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia, explores friendship and materiality through portraits of friends and fellow artists. His technique treats the support—wood panels or canvas—as an active element, not a passive surface. In 'Nic a Borca', he combines acrylic painting with direct incisions into the wood. 'Manu e Keta' (2022) contrasts a charcoal sketch in the foreground with color scraped away in the background, creating sculptural effects. 'Nic e Anna a Borca' and 'Ritratto di Cri' employ more traditional oil and acrylic painting on canvas, with dark tones and sketch-like faces. The exhibition title derives from a song by Italian musician Franco Battiato, reflecting Despotović's personal dialogues and experiences.
